Q: What is Sisterlocks?
A: Sisterlocks is a natural hair care management system that creates tiny style-able locks. It allows women with tightly textured hair to take advantage of a wide range of today’s hairstyles without having to alter the natural texture of their hair or add any products or heat.
Q: Can I get Sisterlocks if I have relaxed hair?
A: Yes. Though the transition will take more time, we can help you make that transition. Your styling options will increase as your natural texture grows out.
Q: Do I need to have ‘fine’ hair for Sisterlocks to work?
A: Not at all! In fact, the coarse, thick ‘nappy’ hair is best for Sisterlocks. Your natural abundant texture adds body and makes styling easier.
Q: How long should my hair be in order to start Sisterlocks?
A: Once you decide you want to get Sisterlocks, don’t fret about the length of your hair. You only need at least four inches of natural hair to start the process. If you have relaxed hair, you will need to wait until you have enough new growth to start Sisterlocks.
Q: Does this mean that once I get Sisterlocks I can still change hairstyles?
A: Yes! Sisterlocks is a lot less limiting than extensions because it is your natural hair. Once your Sisterlocks are fully locked, you can curl it with rollers, braid it, wear a ponytail, cut it, spray or mousse it, wear bangs and parts – You name it! Before they fully lock, we will guide you through the process to ensure optimal results.
Q: Can Sisterlocks be taken out?
A: Technically, yes, though the procedure is so tedious, you will not want to get Sisterlocks with that intention. Once you discover the range of freedom with Sisterlocks, you won’t want to go back! Finally, there is a way of celebrating the natural beauty of our hair with Sisterlocks!
Q: How long does it take to do Sisterlocks?
A: The initial locking process takes time. For medium length hair this means about twelve hours spread across two days or longer depending in the length and density of your hair and to some extent the circumference of your head as we are not all created equal. The beauty of Sisterlocks is that tightening them as your hair grows out is quicker. It takes 3-4 hours every 4-6 weeks.
Q: Can I do the locks myself?
A: This is not advised for the initial establishment of Sisterlocks as not all hair types require the same locking technique. Due to the size of Sisterlocks, improper installation and improper care can lead to hair breakage. We are best trained to give you locks that will be best suited to you. Once your locks have settled, from 6 months on, you can learn to maintain your locks. This is great for when you travel, or when you have to miss an appointment, or if you just want to
save money on long-term maintenance. If you have someone in your household who can help you to retighten your new growth, we will be happy to guide you in that. If you choose to maintain your locks, we recommend that you see a Consultant 2-3 times a year to keep your Sisterlocks looking beautiful! If you are happy to save time, once we start you off on your Sisterlocks journey, we will recommend you to your nearest loctician who will offer you Sisterlocks maintenance appointments. Unfortunately we do not have capacity to take on new retightening clients. We will offer you styles and grooming tips that will ensure the lasting beauty of your locks. We recommend that you book a retightening appointment every 4-6 week to keep your Sisterlocks looking healthy and beautiful!
Q: Will Sisterlocks cause my hair to break or thin?
A: Just the opposite! Sisterlocks is a gentle technique that requires no chemicals, no excessive tightening, and causes no damaging abrasion to the hair or scalp. You will find that with regular care, your locks will grow and grow, and your styling options will increase.
Q: How much do Sisterlocks cost?
A: . The base price is £800 for the first 6 inches and £100 for every additional inch above 6 inches. The consultation appointment takes about 30minutes at £30. The cost of the consultation appointment is included in the overall cost when we establish your Sisterlocks. After the Consultation appointment, you can schedule installation date for about 2 weeks later. We require a deposit of £100 to reserve a date for your installation. Once a date is set, you will receive a starter kit that has information on how to take care for Sisterlocks. The kit includes a starter shampoo. Use the shampoo to wash your hair in the morning of your installation day. After your installation, we recommended you to your nearest loctician. For the first months you will need to go for your retighetening appointments every 4 weeks. Once your locks have settled, Sisterlocks requires retightening of the new growth every 4-6 weeks. Remember to book your appointment date in advance to keep within the schedule. Appointments take about 3 hours or more at about £80 or more. The cost varies depending how well you take care of your locks in between appointments, the number of locks established, the desnsity and texture of your hair, the number of weeks inbetween retightenings and the rate of growth of your hair.
